Massey Leisure Centre managed by YMCA has received $35,005 to upgrade basketball equipment after a public voting competition run by The Trusts in West Auckland.
The funds will be used to install new end-to-end hoops to create an Olympic sized court, new scoreboards and more practice hoops.
Centre manager Steven Bartholomew said the basketball court upgrades will help meet the growing recreational needs of West Auckland.
“A big thanks to everyone who voted for YMCA Massey in The Trusts Million Dollar Mission, and to The Trusts for their support and generosity.
“Over 1,000 kids play basketball every week at Massey Leisure Centre, so the new equipment will allow YMCA to further develop its basketball programme in West Auckland and help get more kids and young people active and into sport.”
The funding was received as part of The Trusts Million Dollar Mission competition. For each vote, The Trusts gave $5 to a voter’s selected cause. Last year YMCA Massey’s Raise Up youth development programme received $38,000 in funding through the same competition. The 2017 funding was used to create a Youth Hub at Massey Leisure Centre.
