During the storm on April 10 part of the roof at Onehunga War Memorial Pool was damaged. As a result, the indoor pool was closed one week prior to the scheduled closure for maintenance and refurbishment work. The Onehunga fitness centre and outdoor pool remain open.
YMCA is now working with Auckland Council contractors to assess the extent of roof damage and determine next steps.
Changes to planned maintenance and refurbishment closure
A planned closure was scheduled between Monday 16 April and Sunday 29 April in order to undertake maintenance and refurbishment work. However, in light of the storm damage, and in consultation with Auckland Council, the maintenance and refurbishment work has been postponed until a later date.
Centre Manager Cameron Kerr said YMCA’s priority was to minimise further disruptions for customers, and avoid an extended period of closure.
“We’re hoping to reopen the indoor pool at the end of April. We will continue to keep customers updated about future closure dates for the rescheduled maintenance and refurbishment work.”
Other YMCA facilities available for use
In the meantime, the Onehunga fitness centre and outdoor pools will remain open.
Members wanting to use an indoor pool, steam room, spa or sauna will be given full access to other YMCA aquatic sites (Cameron Pool & Leisure Centre, Lagoon Pool & Leisure Centre, and Glen Innes Pool & Leisure Centre).
Group exercise classes
Spin classes continue as normal, but all other classes that operated in the group exercise room have been moved to either downstairs in the main gym, or to the Jordan Recreation Centre. Check the website for the latest details, or visit reception for an updated group exercise timetable.
Updates to the work will be available via Facebook, email and in-centre notices.
