The concept of a weight loss diet is not new. Records of historical figures having weight loss programs allegedly go back to William the Conquerer – the story goes his liquid diet meant he lost enough weight to ride his horse again. Although, given he met his demise in a riding accident – fair to say, mixed results.
In the top 10 searched diets in NZ in 2019 you will find mention of low-carb – Keto, fasting for weight loss, Atkins etc. (also, how annoying are those ‘lose belly fat’ ads?). People are still after that magic formula. But what is the best way to lose weight?
Honestly? Everyone is different. And the solution to sustainable and healthy weight loss varies for all. Like exercise - it depends on your habits and what works for you. Anyone looking to make drastic change to their diet should seek guidance from medical professionals. And we can all agree that putting sudden and strict controls on yourself and relying on will-power alone is…. difficult to say the least.
It’s about achievable change. Trim milk in your coffee (possible saving: 50 calories). Or swap out one of those coffees for a green tea (you might find that the part you enjoy is actually the few minutes’ peace and quiet, not the drink). And coming hand in hand – take notice of what you’re putting into your body. It’s not about harsh self-judgement – it’s about building that self-awareness, being aware of your options and making active choices.
Speaking of active – we don’t need to tell you that if you’re looking to lose weight – moving your body is part of the formula. But, again, it’s about finding something that works for you (check out our blog for more on this).
To help you on your way – we’re giving away a year’s free fitness membership. One given away each week in January - keep an eye on our Facebook page to see if you're a lucky winner.
