Enriching After School Care with The Y (formerly known as YMCA) North Shore
Our programme is planned around three themes - Active, Creative and Life Skills. This provides a well-rounded range of activities which will keep your child engaged at their own pace as they wind down from a busy school day.

Safeguarding children, young people, families and staff
The Y is Aotearoa’s first and only accredited organisation through the Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF).
Safeguarding is a fundamental part of our culture and a culture shared with all of our staff, customers and members. To support this we have:
- Designated Safeguarding Staff
- Clear policies and protocols promoting safe and best practice for our customers and staff including safe recruitment practices.
- Compulsory safeguarding induction and ongoing training requirements for all staff
- The Y Safeguarding Code of Conduct provides staff clear guidance and guidelines

Safeguarding
The Y is New Zealand's first and only Child-Safe accredited organisation obtained by the ACF - Australian Childhood Foundation. Safeguarding is everybody's responsibility and here at The Y we are leading from the front to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children, young people, families and staff
Community Support
As a not-for-profit organisation The Y is a charity. We are committed to strengthening families and youth development. Any surpluses made by The Y are reinvested back into the community through our causes. We also provide Fee Assistance to individuals that are not able to use our services due to financial hardship.
Affordable
When we run Before / After Care or Holiday Programmes from the school's premises we make sure that our programmes are affordable. We are here to help and work alongside the school to make sure that the needs of our community are met. We also have WINZ subsidies available to assist.
Audited and Approved by MSD
Our programme is approved by MSD - Ministry of Social Development. This means our programme meets certain standards for approval and is regularly audited for quality assurance purposes. We are fully transparent and also share our MSD audit reports with the school.
Staff:Child Ratios
To ensure the safety and quality of the programme we operate under strict ratios. A minimum of 2 staff per programme. There is 1 staff to 10 kids and 1 staff to every 6 to 8 kids for trip-based activities. For water based activities we have 1 staff to every 4 kids.
Administration and Training
We take full responsibility of all the administration required to run the programmes. This includes bookings, parent communication, WINZ processes, recruitment, on-going training, record keeping, financial, audits etc. We also keep the school and parents in the loop where required.
