The Y Auckland and Waikato network is New Zealand’s first accredited Safeguarding Children organisation through the internationally-renowned Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF).
The Y is a not-for-profit organisation, committed to strengthening families and investing in youth development opportunities. Any surpluses made by the The Y are reinvested back into the community through our causes. We also provide fee assistance to help individuals facing financial hardship overcome any barriers that may hold them back from accessing our programmes and services.
When we run before and after school care or holiday programmes from a school's premises, we pay a fair financial return to the school. We are here to help and work alongside the school to make sure that the needs of our community are met.
Our programme meets high quality industry standards and is approved by MSD (Ministry of Social Development). We are regularly audited by MSD for quality assurance purposes, and share our MSD audit reports with the school.
To ensure the safety and quality of the programme, we operate under strict ratios: a minimum of two staff per programme. There is one staff member to 10 kids, and one staff member to every six to eight kids for trip-based activities. For water based activities we have one staff member to every four kids.
We take full responsibility of all the administration required to run the programmes. This includes bookings, parent communication, WINZ processes, recruitment, on-going training, record keeping, financial, audits etc. We also keep the school in the loop where required.
