We are on the hunt for someone who loves all things Recreation – Think Gymnastics, Sports Leagues, and much more! This is a key role, and we require a well organised Recreation Manager to manage and develop this space to achieve programme advancement, financial success and operational excellence.
This is a full time position (40 hours per week, Tuesday – Saturday).
What will you be doing?
- Create a fun and friendly environment within the Recreation Department that is welcoming and comfortable to all members, new and old, and encourages a sense of belonging and support
- Lead, develop and manage all areas of the Recreation Department
- Provide positive contributions for the improvement of The Y Recreation Programmes or practices
- Set all centre Recreation KPIs and ensure these are met or exceeded
- Support and contribute to the ongoing operational, strategic and financial improvement of the centres and The Y North
- Drive sales and growth within the Recreation departments to exceed financial targets.
- Ensure recruitment, selection, appointment and induction of staff is undertaken in accordance with all relevant HR policies and procedures - ensuring all required pre employment due diligence is undertaken
- Lead your direct reports to ensure they are working towards the achievement of the overall organisation strategy, providing clarity on what they should be doing and how they can contribute
- Ensure your team’s performance is managed effectively; team members are accountable, focused on results and delivering as expected; provide feedback and coaching if performance falls outside the desired standards
What experience/skills do you need?
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in instructing/coaching/training, sales and a supervisory role
- Knowledge of the recreation industry and current trends
- Budgeting and business planning experience – has prepared an annual business plan and budget, achieved or exceeded targets, and has a financial understanding of the business
- Minimum one year of people management experience with ability to coach and train – providing feedback on a regular basis in a manner to improve the employee’s performance.
- Proven ability to develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners, while having a good awareness of the surrounding community
- A passion and energy to make a difference in the community through health, fitness, sport and recreation
- Good MS Office skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Organisational and time management skills
